In the 50’s, my uncle moved to South Africa. In 1984 I visited my family the same year that Queen performed in Sun City. In 1987, Freddie tested positive for HIV and the band decided to stop touring. The Magic Tour consequently became Queen’s final tour with Freddie Mercury.
He passed away on November 24, 1991, 45 years old. It wasn’t until the day before his death that he disclosed he had AIDS. In 2005, I was involved in launching an AIDS prevention program in South African schools. Proceeds from sales at my exhibitions have supported AIDS organizations. My connection with South Africa continues to this day.
